New in Squarespace: Mobile Header Customization Now Available

New Squarespace Feature: Customize Your Mobile Header

Squarespace has just released a mobile device update: you can now customize your website header specifically for the mobile view. This is a major enhancement for mobile optimization and design flexibility.

What’s New?

Previously, the mobile version of your site used a default header layout with limited customization. Now, Squarespace allows you to independently design the header in Mobile view, giving you much greater control over how your website looks and functions on smaller screens.

When editing your website, use the view toggle in the top toolbar to switch to Mobile view. Any changes you make while in this view will apply only to the mobile version of your site—without affecting the desktop layout.

Mobile-Specific Customization Options

In Mobile view, you can now:

  • Change the layout of the logo and menu this is similar to how you can do it for the Desktop view which applies to the header of all website pages

  • Set header functionality: make it fixed at the top or scroll with the page

  • Choose and customize your mobile menu icon style, such as different hamburger icons

  • Adjust padding and spacing: Fine-tune the spacing around your logo, menu icon, and elements for a clean mobile experience.

Design Note

Keep in mind that these changes will not affect the desktop version. However, updates like borders and dropdowns willimpact both desktop and mobile. After making any changes, always double-check how they appear on both versions to ensure consistency and functionality.

Why It Matters

This new feature gives you greater flexibility to deliver a thoughtful, mobile-optimized design. Your mobile header no longer has to mirror the desktop version—you can now tailor it with just as much care and intention.

Since many visitors access websites from their phones, it’s important that both the mobile and desktop experiences are clear, visually appealing, and easy to navigate. If you're curious about how your audience is viewing your site, you can check your Squarespace Analytics to see the breakdown of traffic by device type. Are most visitors browsing on mobile, or are they coming from a desktop computer? Either way, it’s essential to design with both experiences in mind.
